The original pharmacology literature describes Ipamorelin as a selective growth hormone secretagogue with the sequence Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂.
The National Cancer Institute describes it as a ghrelin mimetic that binds the ghrelin/growth hormone secretagogue receptor and stimulates GH release.
Ipamorelin has also been evaluated in human pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic research, where investigators characterized its disposition and the time course of GH stimulation.
